Spring Activities

For Kindergarten & First Grade

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year in the classroom! The weather is warming up, students have a little extra energy, and it’s the perfect time to bring in fun, hands-on learning activities.

If you’re looking for simple, engaging ways to keep your students learning this season, I’ve got you covered with some of my favorite spring activities for kindergarten and first grade.

Spring Write the Room Activity

One of my absolute favorite spring activities is a Write the Room!

This activity gets students up and moving while practicing important literacy skills.

Simply place spring-themed picture cards around the classroom, and have students walk around to find them and record the words on their paper.

It’s perfect for:

  • Building vocabulary
  • Practicing handwriting and spelling
  • Engaging active learners

Students love the “hunt” aspect of this activity, and it keeps them focused while making learning feel like a game.

To support different levels, students can either trace the words or write them independently, making it easy to differentiate

Extend the Learning

After completing a Write the Room activity, I always like to reinforce learning with simple follow-up activities.

Some of my go-to options include:

  • Clip cards for quick skill checks
  • Cut-and-paste worksheets for matching and reading practice
  • Tracing activities to build handwriting confidence

These are perfect for centers, small groups, or early finishers. Plus, they help students get extra practice in a fun way!

If you’d like to try these activities in your classroom, I’m sharing a FREE sample from my Spring Write the Room resource!

Spring Bingo (with a fun twist!)

Another classroom favorite is Spring Bingo, but with a fun twist!

Instead of just calling out words, this version includes rhyming riddles that describe each spring item.

Students listen carefully to the clue and try to guess the correct answer before marking their board.

This adds an extra layer of thinking and makes the game even more engaging!

It helps build:

  • Listening and comprehension skills
  • Vocabulary development
  • Critical thinking

There’s also a digital version included, making it perfect for whole-class play using your screen or interactive board.

You can display the riddles on slides, which makes it easy to manage and keeps all students involved.

It’s one of those activities where students are learning and having fun at the same time.

And they’ll definitely ask to play again!
